Year 7 Coordinator: Oliver MacPherson
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the Year 7s who are starting at Indooroopilly State High School this year. As their high school journey begins, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage them to jump into the year with enthusiasm and engage in the many activities that the year will offer them. While I will be outlining some of these below, students are encouraged to listen to the morning notices each day in order to make sure that they can get the most out of Year 7 as possible.
CAMP is a wonderful way for students to engage with their classmates and teachers, challenge themselves and build leadership skills. Camp will be in Week 7 (11-13 March and 13-15 March) this term. Due to the large cohort, this will be split into two groups across the week; Monday – Wednesday for the first group and Wednesday – Friday for the second. I will be sending out more information regarding camp over the next few weeks via email, so please be sure to look out for this. Similarly, I will ensure that medical, permission and payment forms are available on the school website, and will email out instructions for this over the next few weeks. Please ensure that these forms are returned by 26 February.
STAYING ORGANISED To help students prepare for classes, they have been given a Student Organiser. This is a valuable tool that will help students track homework, assessment, timetables and school policies. It is essential that the Student Organiser comes to all classes and is kept up to date to allow students to develop good study habits, as well as to help Parents/Carers stay in the loop. In Term 2, this will move to a digital platform, but more information will be sent out closer to the date.
WHO TO CONTACT To help smooth the transition into high school, there are a range of people eager to support students coming into Year 7. Please do not be a stranger to Connect and subject teachers, who will be more than happy to field any questions. Similarly, I can be contacted via email through email@example.com, or 3327 8382. Absences can be communicated through Student Services via firstname.lastname@example.org or text to 0429 347 300, and further information can be found on the school website: http://www.indoorooshs.eq.edu.au.
2019 promises to be an exciting year filled with many new experiences and opportunities. I look forward to meeting many of you at the New Families Evening on Tuesday, 5 February, and working closely with Parents, Carers and Students throughout the year.
