Round 2 of the Brisbane Inter-school Chess Competition was held last Tuesday 21 May at Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie).
Organised by Gardiner Chess, it is one of the most popular and successful tournaments of its type in the Brisbane region, with over 250 students from many South East Queensland schools competing in seven chess games throughout the day.
The Indooroopilly State High School team played outstandingly well with a number of students receiving prizes and participating in some very exciting games. The Indooroopilly State High School Chess team consisted of Roman Kull, Max Kovarski, Chloe Johnson, Luke Edgerton, Anika Gupta, Jamieson BottBanas, Tavish Illingworth, Sharne Radel, Anant (Joy) Singh, Christopher Woods, Ben Kopavnik, Jaden Levesque, and Yasmin Aryan. The team was accompanied by Enterprise and Technology teacher, Andy Huntley.
All students played competitively, but a special congratulations to following students for their outstanding results on the day: Roman Kull, medallion winner for second place in the Open A division, and Yasmin Aryan for her high score merit ribbon in Open C division. All students are commended for their sportsmanship, excellent behaviour and great representation of our School.
Thanks also to Library staff Mirva Harrison and Kristen Bell for helping to organise the tournament.
