    Students thoroughly enjoy these tournaments!

    • It was a new experience, a good experience, and challenging. I have improved my game even though I was really worried at the start. First time Tournament player, Chloe
    • Games were difficult but we persevered and got through reasonably well. Ronan

Tournaments are always scenes of hushed, deep concentration during games, with contrasting animated conversation between them, discussion of winning moves and failed strategies, and of replay of parts of games as players demonstrate their tactics for advice from their more experienced teammates. The friendly games and snippets of games, that intersperse the real tournament, are such a vital part of these events, as chess wisdom is shared, and chess friendships firmed.

The End of Term Lightning Tournament attracted 17 new and experienced players entering the Term 1, 2 &3 competitions. Nick Meredith is on course to be the 2017 Lightning Champion, with the overwhelming sentiment expressed by players. “It is just great fun!”
